I'm surprised this is just being thrown on everyone. No request for input

Yep
Doesn't look good to use someone else's software when you've got your own stuff
Just seems like one of those situations where some guy at the top said "put our software in there, they'll learn to like it"

I understand the business end of using single code, but I wonder if IB has weighed
the risk of loosing the member base. If so, do they not care or do they think the vortex teen chat aspect they'll gain from new members is enough to offset the kawf format veterans...
As for leaving cause of brown, no one would have really done that.

why don't we revisit this conversation in 6 months. speculation is pointless until...
...there's a headcount well after the rollout.
final thought: of course they've considered this! it's an ad-based business. you can't sell ads without eyeballs. IB isn't owned by Lax, fer chrissakes.

Exactly, they already 'sold out', so why should it really matter to them anymore...
things have already changed since selling, it's obvious. Vb just suxx *****, and is a bad move...i think Kwaf is what seperates this forum amongst the others out there (outdated or not). But, who are we to decide, we just help make JET and others tons of money supporting his forum, so no reason to speak w/ the members (heavy sarcasm)....

Yea, it's pure business.
IB owns vBulletin so it's probably a decision made from the top down, regardless of JET's opinion. That's what bosses do.
I don't know if JET himself has bought 100% into vBulletin. Last year when IB took over he was saying there was no plan to switch in the "foreseeable future" and was praising Kawf's benefits. I guess the foreseeable future has now officially ended.

July 2008

You make a good point. A "sample page" with JET's AW-wide note seems like it...
... would've been a no-brainer. As it was done, it's almost like they wanted to create the stick-wacking-on-the-hornet's-nest sort of response they got.
