which could be regarded as an attack, insult, blah blah, you tell me. it's out of control.
awot sensitivity training gone mad.
i'm sure you'll probably make some argument similar to your reply to ed claiming some kind of fruit of the poisonous tree. Yet, simply because post 1 is deleted, that does not necessarily mean that posts 2-17 which happen to fall underneath the deleted posts are violations of the TOU. I fail to see a TOU violation in what I linked to.
The post was made on awot for God's sake, and since when is a little ribbing no longer tolerated? people take little pokes at each other on ot all the time, yet they don't get deleted. must be because fletcher gets some sort of protected status due to his friendships with certain mods.
also, isn't it odd that at no point during any of fletcher's replies to the quill pen comment does he mention any offense taken or anger towards the post. IIRC, he starts replying to someone else's comment which happened to fall under the thread. makes you wonder what was so wrong with the comment if he isn't bothered by it.
as per your reply to ed, it seems to me that exposing double standards and hypocrisy is more beneficial to reaching a "solution" as you put it, than simply not doing anything. Is there a real harm in showing that certain people seem free to attack, yet anything said to them or about them gets deleted?
oh, and by the way, since you clean up picposters...you've got some work to do in 7's picposter. last time i checked, vipers weren't audi-related. And if those pics are perfectly fine, i'd love to hear how that doesn't violate the stated rules on the picposter pages.
regards.
People are unhappy with the way moderation has been applied lately and much of that unhappiness is directed towards you - clearly this is something that should be addressed.
Jason told to me that the standards for moderation haven't changed recently - it's just that you guys are doing a better job enforcing the standards that already existed. I would suggest that, from a user standpoint, this is not the case.
We've been down this road before, perhaps 8-10 months ago and all that results is hurt feelings, a few more senior members who quit and more antipathy toward the moderators.
I'm not suggesting that moderation shouldn't take place - it's the way it's done that leaves everyone unhappy. Many of us have repeatedly asked for a more transparent and communicative moderation system - one that maybe generates an email with an explanation or is more selective (perhaps an automatic curse 'filter).
Moderating AW is clearly a thankless job; no matter what people are going to be occasionally upset with how things are done. Despite this, I believe that you guys could make everyone, yourselves included, happier by having a system that engendered less anger and hurt feelings.
