I need to know if the front upper strut brace bracket bolts have washers on them.

Nope. I just checked my '99 A6 avant. No washers, just a flanged head bolt. Why?

It's too much of a hassle for the 01. I had to buy an Optima battery (which I did) and them make a custom holder for it because one of the cross members hits the + terminal if you try to use one side of the original box. Then on top of that, the undeside of the hood hits two spots on the bar because of the underhood washer nozles. Its all stuff that could be tweaked, I just didn't feel like it, so I bought the A6 brackets and some 6061 T6 and 7075 T6 aluminum bar to make the cross member.
