Reasons for brake caliper on the front or back of a wheel?
Other than for steering clearance issues, what are the factors that lead to a decision to put a brake caliper on the front of the wheel or behind it?
I've seen vehicles with calipers on the front of both the front and back wheels, reversed and mixed. I'm sure there must be a compromise, for instance, I would figure that it would be good to put the brake caliper on the back of a wheel so that the rotor could get better air flow.
Maybe it's also better to have front brake calipers at the back of the wheel and and rear brake calipers at the front of the wheel for better weight distribution (toward the center of the vehicle)?
I'm probably wrong...but I'm curious.

I always figured it is related to the steering tie rod end placement as well.
Some cars have the steering rack in front of the wheels, and other have them behind the wheels.
