Default Sympathies. What a drag.

I have a severely herniated S-1 disk that requires me to go under the knife in January. I feel your pain!

Default Yeah. Very low.

I injured it skiing in the late 80's where I pretzelled so bad that I got kicked in the back of my head by my right boot-heel! :-/

It's always been a nagging problem, but I "blew it out" about 2 months ago, with all the typical symptoms-- Pain and weaknes down the leg, numbness... and an MRI that looks like the picture in the textbook next to "Time to Operate".

On the bright side, we are fortunate to live when and where we do! My prognosis is very good, and I look forward to living relatively pain-free for the first time in years.
