Default 60k miles is adviseable

You'll find most people's belts go at that time or shortly after . Better safe than sorry. Manuals indicates 75 and 90k on different years, IIRC.

Is the 1.8T an interference engine?

Default Mileage isn't the right way to determine when you need to replace your timing belt.

When the belt goes, it usually goes because it's been dried out and it's old. The back of the belt loses its shininess and the teeth fall off like an old woman. I just replaced mine and it was looking absolutely perfect. I have 70k miles. But it's not a 1.8t, so what do i know. Ask BugBBQ

Yes, 5v per cyl = very expensive head job.

Default The belts aren't the part that fails its the tensioner...

thats why audi went to the new style tensioner.. the old ones would fail and the timing belt would spin around the pulley and take out half your valves and 3 grand later, your car is fixed.

I think now that they have a good tensioner, it will be the belt that fails first.
