Default X-Post....need advice for a decent home audio receiver.

Scott gave me a nice set of Cerwin Vegas that need to be put to use right now.

Yamaha seems to have the best specs out of the local Best Buy/Circuit city offerings in my price range, but I thought one of you audiophiles said Yamaha was no good?

&lt;$350 is my budget for this item.<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/htelect/msgs/1451.phtml">https://forums.audiworld.com/htelect/msgs/1451.phtml</a</li></ul>

Default Never buy Sony....I spent big dollars and hate it.

Well, it cost me around $400, and was not worth half that much.

Its been in the shop a couple of times and is always annoying the hell out of me. I researched it online prior to buying it, and it got good ratings....no idea why.

Default I've got a Technics...

Have had it for a couple years and it performs great for a unit in that price range.

Default Yamaha makes excellent A/V receivers

Big names I'd choose for A/V receivers in the price you want to spend areDenon, Yamaha, and Onkyo. I'm not to fond of anything else. Harmon Kardon had a few years where they stuff was TOTAL garbage. I think it improved recently.

The Sony ES stuff is good, but not the regular stuff. ES line won't be in your price range.

There are other brands left off this list purposely because they simply don't make anything in the price range you are looking for.

Would you say the sound Q out of an entry level Yamah is comparable to the same in a Denon?

Default yea I would

Although I've heard people comment how the Denon's seem to be "Warmer" then the Yamaha receivers. And FYI, the lines Yamaha sells in chain store like best buy is the SAME exact product you'd buy from an online retailer/dedicated shop. They just change the model #'s. A few years ago, the chain store models were HTR models, not sure if they use that modeling anymore. But it's teh same equipment. Just info for research purposes
