engine light

the car seems to drive ok at street speeds, stop and go traffic, but while on the freeway if 70 mph or more are reached then the engine light comes on and sometimes after a few minutes I notice the car looses power... also it didn't pass emissions testing..

1990 coupe quattro 20v

I run vag-com but there are no faults? bad unit?

Have you checked the codes manually connecting several diagnostic pins?

Sounds like it is retarding the timing, could be a knock sensor.

First thing, try to up the octane and see if it goes away.
