Default help

hi I have a 88 90 Quattro and I was wondering if anyone could give me any ideas on why my car is so sluggish sometimes. When you take off it seems sluggish until you reach 3rd but then takes off just fine but then when your on the gas a little bit it gets slugish again until 5th then it seems to be fine again.

Default If it's an '88 it's an NG

But I'd suspect a vacuum leak. A quick check of a spark plug will give you an idea if it's running lean or rich. If indeed lean, check each rubber line and where it meets the nipple for cracks and looseness.

When accelerating does it feel like the brakes are on? That's a typical feeling with a vacuum leak. A little stumble every so often?

Since it does come on at higher rev's the would usually indicate sufficient fuel. I'd also look at the air filter for any big flow restiction, if running rich by chance. With the metering plate exposed reach in there and see how easily it moves up and down. A sticky plate will cause it to be sluggish but also it generally would want to make it stall depending on how sticky it was.

The NG should come on around 2200 or so but doesn't have a whole lot of HP for a heavy car.

Report back on what you find.
