intermittent very low rough idle...
Periodically whenever I start my car, the idle surges between 600 and 800 and sounds like its missing something terrible. My fuel dizzy (frequency valve maybe?) buzzes really loudly at weird intervals as well. I replaced the fuel filter once and it ran good for about a month and started doin it again. I just changed the filter a little more than a week ago, and it ran good for about a week before it started surging worse than before. When i'm out driving it accelarates great, boosts fine, etc its just whenever i slow down at a stop light or something that i get this BLEh BLEh BLEh for an idle....
some things I've noticed that may help: When i stuck my head under the car yesterday, i could hear what i think is my fuel pump buzzing away. Wasn't whining, but a loud buzz. Two of my spark plug wires leak a bit of electricity(don't ask how i found out) and the majority of this problem started when i was on my way home from working with a friend and stopped at a sketchy lookin gas station, asked for premium, and the guy gave me regular....
please help me out if you can

A few things to try
ISV
Clean and flush the tank and try another filter
Check for vaccum leaks around the IM
Check the air metering plate for free movement
Can you locate another fuel disributor to try?

I think my ISV is intermittent, sometimes i unplug it and the car sounds like its going to die and
other times it makes no difference whatsoever.
I can hear a very very slight vacuum leak coming from the IM, but not sure where it is coming from (think its the plug i have in place of my idle screw...)
When I changed my air filter, I played with the air metering plate a bit, it moves freely but does have a little bit of surface rust on it.
don't know where to get another distributor right now

yea, the oring on my original screw dried up and the turbo pressure decided to shoot the screw out
one day. I just shoved a plug in the hole, and the car started and ran pretty well so i could get it home. haven't been able to source a new screw yet

Re: intermittent very low rough idle...
I have an identical problem with my '88 Audi 90. 5 Cyl 2.3L engine. 170K. Well maintained.
This "idle/power below 3K problem" started last weekend. I am wondering if you have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Chris

hmm I traced mine down to a mix of problems, including horrid vacuum leaks, the CO was WAY out
of adjustment and a bunch of things were just really worn out. Try changing your fuel filter and checking your spark plugs, see if that makes any difference.
