Crews search bay for bridge jumper

BAY BRIDGE - Rescuers were searching the Chesapeake Bay this morning for a man who apparently jumped off the Bay Bridge.

An abandoned Audi was found in the center of the three-lane portion of the bridge about 9:55 a.m., said Kelly Melhem, a spokesman for the Maryland Transportation Authority.

County firefighters, using side-scan sonar and a state police helicopter, were searching the water around the bridge. The lane was closed for about 20 minutes while authorities cleared the scene.

Cpl. Pamela Thorne, a Maryland Transportation Authority Police spokesman, confirmed that a car was found but was tied up at a news conference and couldn't provide more information.

And he almost made it to Criswell Audi. Probably better off. (Too soon to joke?)
