Default Strike hard and fast. Then strike again. I finally solved my problem with plastics...

... My siding is now synthetic (hardyplank), trim is plastic (Azek) and my rear deck is now some plastic. Oddly, my roof is cedar. Bugs suck.

Default Tell me about it. I can't get Chemlawn to STOP COMING. Thieves.

Oh yeah, it's not Chemlawn anymore, it's TrueGreen. I think the old name was more honest.

Default My folks had a helluva time with a certain termite control co. after a scare several years back.

Seriously, criminals they were. Wanted a multi-year contract totaling several thousand dollars. Dad said GTFO and paid the bill for the initial inspection and spot treatment...never signed anything (paid by check), yet they came back several times (and trespassed when no one was home) to do repeat treatments, then try to bill us. It even got so far as them trying to take my folks to small claims...ridiculous.

Which is why I am hesitant to get the pros involved. I'm going to look for water intrustion points about the house and spy on them this evening to see if I can pinpoint the party. A coworkers neighbor used to be in the business and gave my coworker some spray for direct treatment...said he'd hook it up, but only if I can find an active colony (can't spray indirectly). Bollocks!

Default yeah, but that just kills what you see... not the nest...

tony, you got the right idea. The bait/powder does a great job of killing them AND the nest.

I have carpenter bees myself taking up residence in my deck... lil bastards! Haven't seen them in a while, so hopefully they died. I used some hornet/wasp spray on the holes, but otherwise I haven't seen any new growth.

There's a stuff called Demon WP. Do a google search for it. There's that and a few others that might do the trick, but you're going to need to find the nest to make it the most effective me thinks.

Good luck! And Happy Anniversary!

Oh I know its a temporary fix but a lot cheaper than the full contract deal.

Yeah, I have them and am thinking of kicking them to the curb. Not happy.

Default I used a small extermination company for my termite problem...

I had it treated in Dec. 06 (unfortunately they were dormant at that time). Didn't see any activity last year but started to see some this year. They came back and retreated. They warrany the treatment for a year and subsequent years as long as you pay $90 a year to have them come do a regular bug treatment. This place was MUCH cheaper than other estimates I got. If you are interested in them, drop me an e-mail.

Default I considered them and after some research I discovered many people with the same problem as you.

SKIP!

Default I just signed up with Orkin, but I might cancel (3 business days to do so)

I was just reading about all these complaints against Orkin and Terminix and it's scary...but what is a consumer supposed to do?

I got the initial spray this weekend...and I opened all the windows downstairs (in the blazing 100 degree weather) for about an hour, then left the house for a few hours as well.

There are other alternatives I've read online...but they require a lot of involvement on your behalf...like fixing leaky faucets, being cleaner, not have much clutter, and finding where they enter your home and putting petrolium jelly, etc....

Still, I have a baby and now I'm SUPER paranoid after reading all this stuff. Also, with Orkin, it says in their contract that anything will be solved through arbitration and not by jury unless agreed to by both parties...that should scare me enough...and last but not least,

I hate ants.
