help! rear rotor on the A4 won't come off
#4
Rust. If you're replacing the rotor, you may need to slam it with a metal mallet.
I had a front rotor that would not budge until I nailed it with a 20LB iron dumbell. You have to hit it on the lip to break it loose.

upgrade from liquid wrench to PB Blaster...
You can buy them at Lowes, Walmart, etc. Much more effective than LW, in my experience.
Also, I assume the rotor face does NOT have a threaded hole where you could screw in a bolt to push the rotor away from the hub, hence help break it loose? Some cars/rotors have them, not sure if A4 has them... (haven't done my rear yet). IF it does, don't try to push it out (w/ the bolt) in 1 shot. Push it out some, remove bolt, hammer the rotor back in, repeat... until rotor comes loose.
good luck!

bigger hammer :)
the puller idea will work, but if you're too lazy to go get one...
continue soaking with liquid wrench/pb blaster.
hit the hub of the rotor with the hammer all around... turn rotor as necessary.
from backside, hit as hard as you can on rotor face (if you're going to reuse them, put a piece of wood where you're hitting or get a rubber mallet) and keep turning the rotor. Eventually it'll work its way off.

Repeated hammering from behind (just like VA traffic courts dish out)
SRSLY, use a rubber mallet or, even better, a dead blow hammer. It'll come free. And apply anti-seize to the hats (back and front) of new ones.

No need to remove the rotor if he's reusing it, right?
Not like he'll need to turn the rotor. A good brake pad bedding will take care of everything.
Oh and yeah, definitely a bigger hammer.
