Default MA BT: Anyone live in VA and work in DC?

Trying to determine what the differences would be in terms of cost. Obviously, there is the added cost of the commute but what about taxes? Are there additional taxes I would need to pay? Do I just pay income to DC? To VA? Or to both?
Thanks
Shane

Default I think it's only the state you live in.

Moved from MD to VA and still worked in MD. I paid partial state taxes for each state, prorated to the amount time I lived in each. Living in VA and working in MD for a full calendar year I only paid VA taxes. Don't see why DC would be different.

You only pay State income taxes in the state where you are domiciled when you earn an income.

If you "live" in VA and work in DC, you pay State income taxes in VA.

If you live in VA from 1/1/05 to 6/1/05, and from 6/2/05 to 12/31/05 in MD (but you work in DC the whoel time), then you pay partial years in VA and MD.

You only pay VA taxes. No commuter tax like NYC.

Default Only VA taxes. You are also very close to East Falls Church Metro.

You can drive there and park or check out bus schedules that take you to the metro. You'll probably pay about $1 $1.25 for the bus, but when you come back home, you can grab a bus transfer pass which gives you a discount on your bus ride back home.

My car sits in the garage the entire week. Low gas costs, less miles, good walk to the bus stop, and very environmentally friendly.

Default Actually, isn't Dunn Loring closer?

or, the wife can drop him off and he can metro into the city. On the way home, he won't even need a transfer if he has a SmarTrip card, they automatically deduct w/ transfer amount. )

Default DC's been trying to get a commuter-tax but Congress hasn't allowed it...

I live in DC and also pay taxes to the state of California. You work, they want their "take".
