Default mmmm... torsen goodness. this should be fun :)

decided to clean up the torsen tranny a lil bit before it goes into the 4000 Figured I'd get that out of the way before I put the 'ol girl under the knife this weekend.

Took the tranny to the dollar wash by work. Hosed it down liberally w/ carb cleaner and engine degreaser. Took two helpings to get it as clean as I did.

Soaking:

and "clean":

I didn't go too too crazy to get it completely spotless, but it's better than it was. Not like this is a show car or anything If the pressure washers had more ***** I woulda gotten more off, but it was 45* and I was soaked from the spray back, so I wasn't about standing around and being a perfectionist

So today/tomorrow I'm gonna start tearing apart the 4000 a lil more and start prepping for the overhaul. Might drop the motor/trans this weekend... depends if the girlfriend feels like helping out and if she brought warm work clothes with her this weekend... haha. Have I mentioned yet that I have a REALLY patient gf?

If not, I might prep and install some hardware for the eventual 5-point harnesses (thank you summit racing):

We'll see how motivated I am. Too bad I always choose to start doing this kinda stuff when it gets cold out... but at least I got a garage

Default no, 016 out of a 200 20vt...

gives me a torsen diff + taller 3-5 gears vs the vac operated locker in the 4k tranny and short gears.

Hopefully w/ this I can cruise at 70 and not scream along at 3200 rpms :-P And hopefully it'll improve the gas mileage!

Default I spot grease :-0 At least take the time to take off the junkyard paint!

Also, if you use wheel cleaner on the outside of the transmission is will help to eat away the stuck on grime as well.

Default Like I said, i was cold and wet and didn't feel like being a perfectionist ;)

This will keep me from getting covered in grease when I work on the tranny, which is all I'm worried about.

If I had my own pressure washer, I would have spent a lil more time (and did a better job as the car wash one wasn't much better than a garden hose IMHO), but dropping $1 every 4 min was a lil much.

I noticed the junk yard paint. Thing I thought was strange was was that this tranny was from a guy who bought the car as a parts car... never saw a junk yard from what I know. Hopefully the tranny works :-P

Apparently the parts car had a trans replaced at some point in it's life.

Default Wheel cleaner cleaned it that well!

I may want to try this when I have to have my old Benz tranny rebuilt.
