Here's the welding.....

And here it is smoothed out, &amp; painted, to prevent rust until the final paint.

Why? Wouldn't it be simpler to replace the glass with a carbon fiber panel or something?

Default Um.....sunroof hole in roof needs to be.....structural. Carbon fiber.......isn't.....well,

not as good as steel, and when it comes to the driver compartment, I think I want something more solid than cf.

That, and steel was much easier.

Fair enough, but I doubt real sunroof is structural, being glass and all

Default CF is much harder to make, but is better than steel if applied correctly

it has huge tensile strength and using different laminae directions in the laminate you can achieve near isotropic properties if desired, but unlike steel you can achieve couplings like extension - bending coupling which can be very cool

but for this...yes steel is better :-)
