1990 audi 80 coolant temperature guage problem
#2
Guage, sender, or wiring problem.
Normally its usually the sender, or a bad wire.
The guage is a rare item to go bad.
The sender can be ohmed with a voltmeter to test if its bad. As can the wires.
Check to make sure its connected.

Yea, I had to replace the multifunction sensor on my CQ & 90....
It could be the sensor that screws into the block up front where the coolant hose goes in. These seem to go bad after 100K or so.

Re: Guage, sender, or wiring problem.
No, that "item" is the thermoswitch for your radiator fan. If your rad. fan quits...now you know where to look.
I know where you need to look to fix the temp guage in the 5-cyl...but your car has the 4-cyl, correct?? I have no idea on the 4-cyl!!
Sorry, I couldn't offer any more help!!

Re: Coolant temperature sensor
I have a 1990 Audi 100, and I've been told that it's the coolant temperature sensor that's bad on mine. Is that the one you are refering to?
If so, where can I buy it inexpensively ?
Please kindly let me know. Thank you.
