Default 75 100ls

Anyone know where I can find some info on this car? My aunt gave me one with the shop manual for a 73 and earlier...thus, no info on the fuel injection stuff (Well...I'm no mechanic...I could be looking in the wrong place, but I've gone thru the fuel system section a couple times now). Thanks for any info...

I could never keep the car tuned. Great car when running. Good luck.

Hi Tony,

Ok, two hopefully stupid questions.

1) I need to replace the fuel filter. My manual is a 73 and the 73 was carburated. The 75 was the first year for fuel injection and I don't know where the fuel filter is located, nor do I know where to look.

2) The brake lights don't work (though the tail lights do light up on turning headlights on). I can't locate the switch for the brake lights...The fuses look good as do the bulbs.

Thanks!

Default Some answers : more

These are just educated guesses, based on lots of VW / Audi experience.

Fuel filter is either in the engine compartment, by the strut tower, or underneath the rear, near the fuel tank. Filter looks like a 6"diameter by 6" long can, with a fuel line on each end. Dont confuse it with the fuel damper, which may be near the filter and pump, but has 2 fuel lines, both on one end. The fuel pump has some wires to it.

The brake lights are typically activated by either a switch located under the dash, on the brake pedal, or a one or two wire hydraulic switch, typically screwed into the body of the master cylinder, in the engine compartment, about the sixe of a half-dollar.

Cool...I think the fuel filter is in the engine compartment as the mechanic pointed in that general direction and said I could swap it on my own.

As for the brake switch, I've taken apart the underside of the dash and have found nothing resembling a switch so I thought it might be attached to the master cylinder. However, I wasn't really sure what to be looking for...I'll go look again.

Thanks for the help!

Default MUST depressurize fuel system before loosening the fuel lines @ filter ! more

Pull the fuel pump fuse, or relay out, then crank starter for 15 to 20 seconds.
