Default another malfunction indicator light question...

I added a Wett chip and Ramair filter to my '99 A6Quattro last wk, noticed some hesitation, poor response and I think I found the problem. Suddenly , the MIL light went on, I opened the hood and saw that I must have failed to tighten one of the hoses on the air filter system. After reconnecting , the car was great! However, the light is still on. I've read the threads on the malfunction indicator light and I have a few questions that weren't answered;
1. Can I turn it off , myself?
2. If I bring the car in, can I tell the dealer I changed the filter (not the chip) will he detect it when he re-calibrates the ECM?
Thanks , Dennis
The only way to turn the light off w/o a 1551/52 is to remove the ecu for appox 20 min. It will forget after the capisitors run down. The dealer will just pick up a excessive lean condition from the DTC.

Default Just a thought - can the battery be disconnected for an hour or so, then reconnected?

I thought that's what my service manual for my Coupe Quattro said to do.

Not always effective, there is a lot of residule voltage floating around the various control units in these cars.It may or may not forget. Plus then you pick up a lot of low voltage faults in other systems.particularly air bag control. Then there is always the radio code thing.
