Sounds like the fan resistor has gone south!

A/C switch-1988 Audi 90

To add to a myriad list of problems (!) my A/C fan switch only seems to work on the highest fan setting. Was working fine,though alittle noisy, when all of a suddden 1st three fan settings stopped working. Can I expect the highest setting to die soon too? Any suggestions? Thanks.
