carrier bearing...?

carrier bearing...?
Can this be re[laced on it's own, or as a local guy with a vw/audi repair shop says, the whole shaft got to be replaced.
There is a listing on one of the web sites for this though my guy thinks it may just be a part that matches up from another car. Though it is the same part it can't go on the 90 shaft.
I can almost pretty much fit a pencil between the shaft and the bearing and therefore need to get this done as soon as possible...
Thanks

Maybe...
<center><img src="http://www.urs4.com/images/driveshaft/DSCN1005_small.JPG"></center><p>First of all, yes, according to Audi, your only option is to replace the entire driveshaft ($$$$).
Pshaw on the Germans. The American way is to try to fix it for $25. There is a BMW carrier bearing (p/n BMW 26 12 1 209 532) that MIGHT fit. It worked on my friend's UrQuattro, but as you can see in the link below, it did not fit my UrS4, but only because the bracket didn't fit.
For the savings it could give you, it would be worth getting one and seeing if it would work.
More information can be found on the qlist archives at audifans.
Good luck,<ul><li><a href="http://www.urs4.com/UrS4_transmission.html#driveshaft">carrier bearing info</a></li></ul>

Also...
there is a guy on the Qlist named Javad Shazdi. If I remember right he has fabricated a solid carrier mount for his turbo charged Audi 80Q. If it works in his car, then it should work fine in that 90Q. I think he was charging $50. Might be another option to consider if the BMW one does not fit. If you need his email LMK, I'll try to get it...

Re: how much work....?
There's a bolt that holds the yoke to the shaft that you have to work off. I put various spacers between the head of the bolt and the u-joint and as I backed out the bolt it forced the yoke off...but it wasn't easy! I don't know if Blau ships to Canada, but I remember the instructions came with the bearing, you might give them a call to see if they even have a bearing for your 90.
