code 53

Hi,

my 1993 audi 100 respond with code 53 while i press hold the check button and switch the key to on position. did any gentleman know what it means or from where i can learn more about the diagnositic program of the car. Thank a lot.

I think that is the country coding # (which language is displayed) for the Auto Check computer.

Code 53 means that you have 5 cylinder engine (first digit). 3 means that language setting is set at RW (rest of the world). Language setting is easily changed by switch behind the instrument cluster. The possibilities are RW, US and EU.
