Engine Question
I mean, anything will FIT, but you'll need the ancilliary electrics and so forth. It would be a plumbing nightmare.
What you can do is put in a turbo I-5 from a 5000 or 200. Still a fair amount of work, but much easier. The engines are also far more plentiful. Where would you find these 'S' motors I wonder?
Such a project will cost what your 90 is worth at a minimum, so it's probably easier and more cost effective to just buy the car you want.
I would search some of the quattro sites to try and find an engine. KAR in MN has a '91 200q engine, that would work in your car. I think there are a few more of these engines around, you just need to do a lot of legwork to find one.
That would be pretty sweet to build an S2 sedan (essentially what you'd end up with if you did the complete conversion).
Where are you located?
