Ignition switch sticking

I have a 94 90s and the ignition switch will stick when the car is started. Obviously some of the acc items will not work and you have to turn the key to the left a little to fix the problem. It is really not a problem for me but when others drive the car they dont know what is going on. I have tried to spray some oil in the lock but still no fix. Does the switch need to be replaced or can it be taken out and repaired? Thanks for the help.

I had this problem on my 88 5000. Apparently the ingnition switch was under recall(from porsche?)It affected almost everything electrical in the car. No power to the windows,sunroof,climate control and most disturbingly to the cooling fan. If I giggled the key a to the left a little bit everything would begin to work. So it sounds like the same type of deal. The repair only cost me about $85.00 at my mechanics, so that was'nt to bad. Dont know if my Audi 5000 shares the same ignition switch with your 90 but I would have it looked at.

Yes it can...

I took mine apart and cleaned the contacts. Be aware though that there are a couple of little tiny springs (as well as loose contacts), so if your not good at puzzles a new switch might be the way to go. BTW they just snap together, you can get them apart by carefully pulling the snaps up.

Thanks for the help. Do you have to take the Steering wheel and airbag off to get the switch out or can you get out through the tumbler? I contacted the dealer and this was a recall back in 96 and was supposedly done to my auto. Obviously not a long term fix. I have had the veh for over a year now without other problems.
