Passat Question
My brother-in-law wants to get a Passat. I was wondering if you knew when the 1999 model comes out, and is the GLX worth it or not? Also, is the quality of the Passat as good as that of the A4? How much would be a fair price (is there a website for the "fair" price)? Will it be cheaper to buy in Houston, TX or Tulsa, OK?<p>Thanks for the info in advance...<p>--<br>Adil<br>'97 A4 2.8 QMS

IMHO, the GLX is worth it, when you compare the features, there is no equal for the money. The only problem is that you won't get one. (Nothing personal here, it's just the I am starting to wonder if VW will ever produce them). I have had one on order for 4 months, and the manufacture date keeps slipping, and slipping, and I kinda feel like the donkey, and the carrot. If you (or your brother) are serious about getting one, leave me a follow-up to this, (with your E-Mail address), and I'll add you to our "I'm waiting for a Damned GLX" group. (We share info from our dealers, and our conversations with the brass of VWoA, etc).

The '99 models are already out. Is the GLX worth it? (first you have to find one) Thats kind of a judgment call that he'll have to make after he drives (finds) one. I would say yes. Quality as good as an A4? After driving numerous A4's and comparing them to my '99 1.8T wagon, I would have to say over all, yes. The A4's are a little more "luxerious". Extra Gauges, wood trim, sport seats, sport wheel etc. The new passat is also %40 percent Audi (parts) and assembled in the same plant along side the A4 (or so a salesman told me). Good luck finding much of a "deal". Especially on a GLX. Depending on the trim level, if the dealer has it in stock, market area, color etc. you should be able to get something off MSRP.
