Default Rough idling

Can someone please tell me where the Idle stabilization valve is located? My idle is rough despite timing changes which have gotten rid of the pinging atleast. I understand that sometimes the ISV needs to be cleaned with carb cleaner and this might eliminate the problem. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

If your not stalling, its probably your O2 sensors
they need to be replaced every 60k or so.

Default hmm okay, I think Scott will try to kill me now... but where are the O2 sensors?

The car's been having slightly unstable idling for the longest while and haven't been able to locate the problem... sounds like the sensors needs changing... How do you go about changing them?

Thanks!

Nah, we aren't coming after you. We just wanted to get the cheap stuff done first. O2 sensors = $$$

O2 sensor replaced a few weeks ago. Car died on me last week and mechanic found that the distributor wasn't getting voltage so he had to rig up a wire to ensure voltage because he said it would take too long to figure out where the electrical problem really is. Well, that fixed the starting problem although it still takes a couple tries to start. Mow idle is major problem. He turned it up but when AC is on car stumbles and idle is around 200 rpm! Now he thinks maybe a vacuum leak. This car ran great except for pinging until he had to fool with it to pass emissions for state inspection when he replaced the O2 sensor. Also no matter what he does he can't get the check engine light to go off. At this point I'm at a loss to figure out how to get this car to run well. I'm in South Jersey. Anyone know of a decent Audi mechanic down here?

Default The first thing you....

...(or your mechanic) need to do is get the codes. If your check engine light is on then you are getting trouble codes. You should get them off your car and this will help your search.

Once the check engine light is off then I would suggest cleaning the ISV.

The board could tell you how to do this but we would need to know which model of car you have (and year)!! :-) (I've seen you post before but I can't remember your car)
