The Saga Continues
It's Thursday night and my Audi 5000 is still in the shop. I went to pick it up this morning at 9:00 with the understanding that it was all finished. The mechanic said it was ready to go but told there was a slight friction when turning the steering wheel back and forth from the center position. I tried it out. It wasn't doing that when I took it in. Last I heard they had the steering column apart and part of the dash trying to find the problem. The boss said they would fix it at no addictional charge (grin). I did have to pay for the hose coming out of the hydraulic resevior. They used EOM hose ($37.95). The labor was free. Since they have part of the dash out they are going ot fix on the burned out dash lights (for free). They worked on the car all day and I haven't heard a word. I don't know if I should be worried or not. The boss took back home in his corvette (it was nice, but not Audi quality). O.K, so he can test his tire pressure at 80 MPH - big deal. Well, my fingers are crossed. Tomorrow they will have the car one week.

The friction in the steering wheel after changing the rack...
is because they didn't get it adjusted right, the column is to far in (there is a slip fit clamp at the fire wall where the column bolts to the pinion, the bolt just need to be loosened and the wheel pulled out until it's right). One thing to watch for is that it is easy to misadjust it too far the other way so the turn signal cancel doesn't work either (as you might be able to tell I'm the idiot that misadjusted mine both directions and had to figure it out).
