squealing noise
I'm back, I have the 1989 Audi 100 sedan, automatic. Well, about 2 months ago or maybe less I had the timing belt replaced as part of the "maintenance" thing. The car presently has about 58,500 miles on it and I thought it would be a good thing to do. Well, since then there has been an occasional squealing sound coming from the engine upon acceleration and then it's quiet again until you stop and have to accelerate again. It wasn't so loud in the beginning but now it's definitely noticeable. Do you think this is related to the timing belt? I hope it's not something expensive again. Any opinions?
Thanks,
Nancy

My fan has started to squeal and will need to be changed soon. When it first started it would only occur after running for a while and while accelerating (I guess the momentum was causing extra stress on the fan shaft). Strange but true.
This is a common Audi problem. Worth a shot to check.

I just had a similar problem with my '91 90. It's the alternator belt...and it will take the shop about 15 mins to correct(if they're slow)!!

Was this a costly thing? I'll bet they want to "replace my belt". What things should I look for or ask if they say it's "better to replace" than merely tighten? Thanks.

Well, the squealing noise stopped yesterday. But, it was COLD outside. Do you think that perhaps the belt gets loose during warmer weather and it contracts with the cold to stop the squealing? Just a shot in the dark. Thanks for your opinions and advice.

I recently replaced all three of the belts on my cars I think it was $30 for all three belts. So it might cost about $10 for the belt!!!
Either way this should be a cheap(possibly free) and FAST fix!!!
