Stereo Question
I have a 1997 Audi A4 without the bose system. I want to purchase Kenwood 6-1/2" Speakers for the rear deck. However, I am running into a problem.
When I look at the speaker it is connected with 8 wires in a bracket. However the speaker only accepts 2 wires ( a positive and negative ). I probably could find what is the positive and negative however I was wonder what the rest of the wires did. I am truely confused. Can someone please help me out.

The stock drivers side rear speaker is actually a stereo amplifier and speaker unit. You cannot ....
replace it with just a regular speaker. The 2nd channel of this amplifier drives the passenger side rear speaker, which has only two wires. You need to add a power amp, fed from the line level signals which currently feed the stock amp/speaker.

Generally, Audi amplifies the rear speakers at the speaker. If you see a large silver case around the speaker magnet, that is the heat sink/amplifier enclosure. That means you will need an amplifier and some custom wiring. Since Bose uses the philosophy "Better Sound through Equalization," don't even think of using that amp, unless you are a BSEE and plan to reverse-engineer the equalizer circuits. Having seen the schematics, I can tell you that you don't even want to try.
You may find the connectors at Radio Shack (just a guess) in which case you can make a little box to convert the connectors to the RCA style. Good luck. It may be best to just have a professional install done.
