temperature gauge
I own a 1988 Audi 80. Last summer I had to replace my radiator because it broke while I was driving it down the freeway. Before I could get to an off ramp and out of danger it was pretty hot. It had lost most of its fluid and the needle was pegged. Fortunatly nothing was damaged except the temperature gauge. It stuck on hot and I can't get it to go back. Also sometimes going around sharp corners or taking off fast makes the temperature light come on for just a few seconds. I was wondering if this was a problem with a sensor or with the gauge and if so does anyone know where to get one. I would like to get this problem solved before summer when it gets hot out again. Thanks.

The warning light.....
..means you need to add some coolant. Especially if it only comes on going around corners....it's the low coolant sensor activating your warning light!!
Even if it the tank looks full add a little coolant to the system...the warning will go away!! BTDT!!
Well, at least you have one problem down!!

The temp sensor cam be "ohmed" out with a voltmeter. This will tell you for sure if its guage or sensor.
As for the light, normally it means your coolant level is slightly low in the expansion tank.
However, I have seen the sender inside the tank give false indications, and the "mini-check" system in the instrument cluster, give false indications. The mini-check system in my wife's
80 was replaced after changing the expansion tank did not make the light go out!
