Wierd idle

The joys of Audi. My '89 200 QT will idle at 2-3,000 RPM then just as suddenly, settle down to normal idle. I've cleaned and replaced the ISV and checked for vacuum leaks, all to no avail. Any ideas?

Check the idle switch also...

it is under the plastic cover on the throttle body.

how old are you o2 sensors?

Brand new. But O2 sensors are singular, right? Just one on the exhaust manifold.

Just spent all my spare hours for the past month going through vacuum hoses and connections plus air sensor and throttle body plates which had loosened. Idle was last problem and found a wire crack at throttle body sensor. Peace at last and stable to boot.
