Please give me you opinion about my first bike
I've ridden dirt bikes a bit, but never a sport bike. With gas so high I'm looking to get a motorcycle. I pretty much made my mind up on getting a suzuki GS500F but everyone I talk to says that I will quickly outgrow the 500cc since they are slow, and want something faster. So then I started looking into the suzuki SV650 S.
The bike would be mainly bought for gas mileage and cruising the twisty backroads from time to time. With the 650 getting 10 mpg less than the 500, I'm starting to lean back to the 500.
Do any of ya'll think the 500 won't be enough and I will just be disappointed?

Meh...the YZF600R is still too much for a 1st bike, IMO.
It's 90hp at the crank, which translates in to somewhere around 80hp at the rear wheel. Definitely too much for a beginner. Just because it's cheaper than a R6 doesn't mean it's any less of a sportbike.

Haha...sowwy ; ) The only problem is you're comparing...
...a 90bhp sportbike to a 71bhp standard. The SV is MUCH more comfortable than the 600R and I think a comfortable bike is one of the most important things for a beginner.
Also, the YZF600R is a junk bike. It's literally made with bargain bin parts off of older models. I'm not saying it isn't reliable or a decent bike, because it is. The only person I'd recommend it to would be someone with experience who is on the fence about getting a sportbike or cruiser and didn't want to fork out the extra $2000-$3000 for a supersport 600cc. Actually, I'd rather have the Kawi ZZR600 over the Yamaha.
