17" vs. 18" wheels for the track, advantages/disadvantages?
I am looking at purchasing race wheels/tires for track events. I am not sure whether I should get 17" or 18". Can anyone comment on what is a better choice?
I like the TE37's
Thanks

18" R-compund rubber is harder to find than 17"...
18" wheels and tires cost more than 17"
18" wheels weigh more than 17"
18" wheel can let you run a lower profile tire for better turn-in BUT a 235/40-17 should be a better choice than a 235/40-18 because you will be lower to the ground, and be running a lighter wheel

Re: Who makes a light 17" wheel?...
Can you recommend a light 17" wheel good for the track?
I like the Volk Racing TE37 because of the fact that it only weighs ~16lbs/wheel but I have been told that it is only available in 18" for the S4.
Thanks.

SSR Competition 17x8.5 15.5 - 15.7 lbs !!!
We just got the BMW version of the 17x8.5 and it weighs 15.1 lbs, since the Audi wheel will only have a 35mm offset (taller mounting flange), it will have a little more weight. The Competition wheel also has brake clearance for the S4!! The wheels are being shipped this week from Japan to us. Contact Eddie or Luke at the Tire Rack for more information.
