Default 1995 miata 190K miles $2500 looks good from the outside HIT?

A female friend is selling her 95 red miata with 190K miles for $2500
No hardtop.
She is a calm late 30's psych doc that used the miata through med school and early practice. She commuted about 120 miles everyday. She claims that its never been hit and that she has jiffy-lubed it every 3-5K miles. Never changed the clutch, never did any major maintenance cause nothing has failed so far.

My plan is...
I currently live less than a mile from "work" but will be moving and my commute will be closer to 20 miles. I dont want to use my S4 for this. This will be a nice handling cheap(?) efficient commuter that can be slowly spec-ified.

Hit or pass?
I can have it inspected for mech damage if I ask her.
Outside and inside looks very good.

Default Diego...decent 90/91s in NorCal go for about $3K...

I would hit that one...but it is really tough not inspecting it myself. Think of it this way..it probably needs:

1) Brake rotors
2) Brake pads
3) shocks
4) springs
5) tires
6) clean the injectors (send them to RC Engineering in SoCal)
7) timing belt
8) spark plug wires
9) spark plugs
10) thermostat
11) belt
12) radiator flush (maybe a radiator)
13) radiator/heater hoses
14) clutch/pressure plate?

You will need a roll bar to be safe...I would
not drive that car on the road without one...

All that adds up to about $2-2.5K or thereabouts.

I would go for it...I am thinking of getting
another one myself.

Email me if you see something on the car when you inspect it..and want some feedback on it.

Default Im having it fully inspected by a reputable local mechanic

If it sounds like it only needs what you said, Ill hit it. Anything "major" and I wont. Thanks for the help. I know its bound to have problems, but I havent been able to find anything else for around 3K that is a 1.8L

Default Very good idea, a friend of mine bought a 97 Miata

to save some miles on is E46 M3.
It is quite nicely prepped but he did pay a lot more than 2.5K

Definitely put a roll bar. Most of the parts/repairs are really cheap (that is compared to the S4!)

It is actually pretty fun to commute with the Miata, especially if you have a few sweepers on your way to work.
