Best Audi for road racing

Re: what series and class do you plan on racing in?
"I do not want some SCCA, etc. to tell me what kind of engineering I am allowed to do"
Fair enough, but there is an element to racing where it's the most fun when lots of evenly matched cars are racing together and dicing it up. A poorly populated unlimited class (and SCCA has got a couple, based on displacement) doesn't seem much like racing if the car in front of you is 1.5 sec a lap faster and the car behind you is 1.5 sec a lap slower. That's more like a glorified DE session with open passing, except that you paid racing prices for the privilege and got racing track time (=not much!)
That's part of the reason you see several SM guys here on an Audi board.

Agreed, but isn't this how Audi Sport likes to operate? Simply makes sure that this is *their* car that is 1.5 sec a lap faster? :-)

We have a B5 Audi Sport UK Motorsports chassis for sale.
The car was run by Champion in the SPEED World Challenge GT and then we bought the chassis from them and ran it in the SPEED World Challenge Touring Car with a 1.8T MHALE motor in it.
Here is a link to a thread the new owner of our other car wrote. There were some delays with his car as he and his uncle changed their minds on the set up they wanted. This caused a delay due to some of the parts having to be fabricated in the UK by MAHLE. Also, delivering the car in the middle of the race season was not easy as it caused us a limited ammount of manpower to the project.
This car is a true full blow spec race chassis and is at about 2600lbs of weight. The car is very fast, in fact Chip Herr pulled off a 0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds with our de-tuned (SCCA requirment) 1.8t motor.
Also, Freddy Baker set a new track record at Mid Ohio in the B5 car this year.
If you are interested in the last car please let us know.

yeah....
I'm not yet ready to race fender-to-fender (no budget), but there is a group here (COM) that does time trials (they put a limited # of cars on the track with a gap, so there's little chance of running into someone else).
There's lots of miata-folk, and they're very friendly.
The other advantage of the miata is that it's cheap and easy on parts like brakes/tires. I got an entire year of track days (15 or so) on one set of tires and brakes (and I've got enough pad left to do a few events next year).

I feel your pain...
Lots of track days... and now recently, I got into racing. My uncle and I are the ones who picked up the B5 from Stasis. BTW, hardly delays because of "us" changing are minds
Anyway, if you really need an AWD car that is between $15K-$30K, then a B5 S4 will do you fine. Lots of potential, far more than a B6 S4. Also, with the B5 chassis, there are a lot currently for sale (in fact, my old S4 that I originally bought for track days is going on AutoTrader in a week or two...).
A word of note. Realistic power levels are far lower than 5-600hp if you want to keep the budget under $30K

so you basically just want the fastest car at the track?
thats not racing...
there's NOTHING like battling lap after lap with similar cars...i've run races where the cars in front of me checked out and i checked out on the cars behind me, it can get pretty boring...

Re: Best Audi for road racing
B5 S4 vs. B6 S4 -- now this is the kind or recommendation that I am looking for. I searched the Model Guide... does B5 stand for 2005? Wouldn't that be more than $30K?
I am still lost in this forum, sorry. Where is the ex-Champion RS6 for sale, and how much? I know I could call Ben at Stasis tomorrow, but is there a web page?
If I go racing, it will be time trials. These cars are too beautiful to use them to bang fenders with other lesser cars. :-)
Thanks, everybody!

B5 is the model code for the S4 that was made from 99-2001.5 (or so). It had the 2.7T (v6) engine
B6 refers to the V8 powered S4 that came out as a 2004. The current model is the B7, which is mostly cosmetic changes to the B6 (plus a rear-biased center diff).
The lighter weight of a 1.8T powered B5 chassis (plus the lower cost) would be the better choice.
