Default Full ALMS season for Audi R8s and up to 6 cars at LeMans !!!

As is being reported today, 1/17 on "www.autosportmag.com" from the Detroit Auto Show;

Audi signs up for entire ALMS season -
17-Jan-2000

German car manufacturer Audi has announced it will
contest the entire American Le Mans series in 2000.

Head of Audi Sport, Dr Wolgang Urich, announced the
German marque would enter the championship at the
recent Detroit motor show.

He said: 'The Le Mans Series provides attractive
motorsport and we are extremely pleased to be able
to fulfil the wish of Audi of America to compete there.

'Our new car has been built by Audi Sport in record
time. That was a great team effort.

'We definitely wanted to have the first proper roll-out
early so we could start the test programme right at
the beginning of the year.'

Audi's campaign in the outright Prototype class will
begin at the Sebring 12 Hours in Florida on March 18,
with a two-car team overseen by multiple Le Mans
winner Joest Racing.

Along with its two car assault on the Le Mans series,
Audi is expected to run up to six cars at the Le Mans
24 Hour race. "

Default Great News! I look forward to seeing them in Laguna Seca this fall. BTW, Thunderhill! What's the

scoop? Seems like nobody's wring about it yet other than Steve S. and Johannes warping their brake rotors and Sharon loosing her tire gauge? :-) details, details, details

Default Thunderhill

Drat, I was only the 2nd fastest station wagon there. Had a spectacular 70MPH ish 4 wheel slide, but the round black things stayed on the flat black thing, with the clear things in front of the red things. Unlike certain others. :-) Really learned a lot the 2nd day as a passenger and student with Corey, Sharon and Steve. Thanks guys and gals!

I sent a very long summary to Sean and Steve, check their web site soon.

Default Re: Too bad BMW pulled out to concentrate on F1

Would have been nice to watch the rivalry. But I did here some private non-factory team bought the BMW's.

Default Cadillac and Panoz will also be pretty strong competition

I'm just disappointed that Porsche won't go in order to spend more time and money on their SUX - oops I mean SUV. When's the Porsche pickup truck gonna be available?

Hi Morgan. I thought I'd say hello. I was the interloper instructor in the 996 Cabriolet who went out with you for a portion of a session. Good job, as I recall. I had a great time, although the drive back to L.A. sure was long at that hour of the evening. Good thing I stopped at Harris Ranch for a great ribeye steak!

Default Re: Thunderhill Event - Brief Review

Bob:

You mean you didn't hear about Stan doing some off-roading both days? :-)

As a guest instructor who runs my own DE schools, I'd say the event was a huge success. It rained most of the day on Saturday - perfect for Quattros. Sunday was dry, windy and clear, making the track fast. There were a number of interesting cars there, including a race modified Audi 4000 brought down by Alex from Proformance in Seattle, a 400 hp older S4, a Porsche 993 Twin Turbo previously owned by Jeff Zwart, which won its class at Pike's Peak a few years ago and a brand spanking new Porsche Boxster S Tipronic, to name a few.

Overall, I had a great time, and thank Andew Bennett for allowing me to help out. I'll likely be instructing at Spring Mountain in Pahrump in the beginning of April, so maybe I'll get to meet some more of you there.

Default BMW announced today full ALMS schedule for Prototypes

I'll be in Dallas when they roll in. I'm looking forward to rooting for BMW and Audi. ALMS is looking more and more like a solid series. Now if we could get better TV coverage.....
