Default noob track advice needed NY Metro area

Although I realize that the S4 is no where near the best track car, I still want to take it out and have some fun, most importantly learn how to drive on a track. It looks like we're down to one of the following: Limerock, Pocono North, Pocono East. I'm leaning towrads Pocono East at this point due to it being a weekday (less people I hope) and a little closer. Besides a general vehicle inspection, a helmet what else should I bring to the track? Anyone who has run on these tracks, please post your thoughts on which might be better for a few beginners. TIA

Default Ugh. PErsonally, Pocono is crap..

i think Lime Rock is better overall. But that's just IMHO...

You should bring:

- blue tarp (from Sears/Home depot) to set your crap on and cover it if it rains (though you may have a garage at Pocono)
- tire pressure gauge
- torque wrench
- impact socket for your lug nuts
- folding chair
- sunscreen
- cooler w/ice and water
- a hat (avoid sunburn)
- sunglasses
- ziplock bag (large/multi-gallon) to store odds and ends crap that you need to take out of your car

Default Install Motul brake fluid and inspect brakes every couple of hours.

If you start chewing up your rotors or pads, don't forget your going to need some brakes to get home.

Default Never been to any of the tracks but.

the "less people" factor is a huge plus. A HUGE one!

I actually make a point of NOT going out on a weekend. The local kart track is very popular and gets pretty crowed during the weekend. More driver usually = more danger, and it is a total wast of time to practice when you run into someone at every corner.

Default Let us know when you are going. We can talk more at the track.

I also believe that the Audi is quite good for track events.

Pocono is fine if you live close to it, and are starting out. It is not as pretty as Lime Rock.

Default I love both, but would suggest Lime Rock over pocono for a newbie, you will learn a lot more as...

Lime Rock is a much more technical track. Pocono is great for bump drafting and what not, things you wont be doing as a newbie. Also speeds are much faster (if you driving correctly) and thus you will have a much higher risk factor. The infields are a blast, especially the turns entering the infield as well as nascar turn 1. I just really don't think it is a great track to "learn" at.

I also think that Lime Rock itself has much better facilities that will make it so you will enjoy the experience a lot more.

Default i liked the facilities in poconos better - covered pits etc. also you dont have to deal

with the miles and miles of no-overtaking roads of slow-***-elder-people-town, CT
