Default Recommendations for a car - want to AutoX, RallyX and maybe Clubrally

I'm considering getting into racing for fun, and was wondering about recommendations for a car.

I'd like to be able to autocross and rallycross primarily, and maybe venture into clubrally.

I'm not shooting for the moon, and I don't really expect to win, but I'd like to avoid coming last too often.

I've just sold my '88 90Q, and will hopefully be buying something when I get to the east coast and start working. Preferably looking to spend under $5000 for the car itself, and looking to keep it street legal so I don't have to trailer it.

I have a soft spot for AWD and Suby's and Audi's, but do I really need it ? Something that wont need a turbo conversion would also be nice.

I've been thinking maybe an older Subaru, or a 4000. I've heard a lot of people race Golf's as well. Are there any Japanese or domestics (other than Suby's) that are suitable for RallyX ?

Also, if I'm living in Norfolk or Pax River, is there any snow racing nearby ?

Thanks,
Mike.

Default Here's a good place to start

Ben's has the most cars for sale anywhere. That's where I found mine.

If you're only going for ClubRally, any car will do, but get something you like. Finishing order top to bottom, is usually separated by not much more than 10-20 minutes total for the entire event, and it's the drivers making the big difference there.

4k's are very popular too. They're built tough, and they'll get you to the finish.

Drop me a line off list if you want, I'll try and answer any questions I can.

Ben's Rally Page

Default No recall elections either!

A place where you don't have to get a 60 year mortgage for a 1 bedroom house.

Gas isn't over $2 a gallon.

You don't have a 30 minute commute for a 3 mile trip to work.

No water rationing.

C'mon! I lived in CA for awhile, I wouldn't ever again, if my life depended on it. Besides, the most snow we ever got in 2 days was like 7 feet. That's nothin! You got Quattro right?

Default I once heard someone say it was as if someone picked up the USA and shook it ...

and all the fruits and nuts fell down to California.

Maybe I'll change my mind once I've lived there for a while, but I found California to be very similar to Australia, so it was a lot more "comfortable".

I'll probably be in Virginia - either Blacksburg or Yorktown. Virginia Beach was looking pretty inviting ... until it got a bit windy
