Default Super-low traffic day at Thunderhill tomorrow (7/23)

Lotus Club is hosting a track tomorrow. Show up with a check at T-hill and you can run. So far there are only 20 people signed up total. You can get a ton of track time in and cut out before the heat of the afternoon.

Check it out:

*************************************
Please forward this message to all your car buddies and clubs.

The next GGLC track event is scheduled for Thunderhill on Wednesday, July
23. All types of cars are welcome, but open cars must have a roll bar.
Contrary to a previous announcement, we are going to run in the normal
direction (counterclockwise) at this event. We may go clockwise at our next
event on September 4th.

If you have never run with the GGLC before, be aware that unlike many other
groups that CLAIM to provide lots of track time - we truly do. We run our
track events non-profit and limit the attendance to 50 cars total. Our
Thunderhill events typically have less than 15 cars on track during most of
the afternoon. In the later afternoon, 5-10 cars on track is typical.

We will be running essentially the same format as previous events with A and
B groups.

A group is for experienced drivers and allows open passing everywhere
including turns and braking zones.

B groups is for less experienced and/or less aggressive drivers and
restricts passing to the 3 long straights without a pointby. B group also
allows passing in other areas with a pointby. We will enforce a minimum
spacing of 2 car lengths between vehicles in the B group to discourage
aggressive driving. The 2 car length rule will not apply in the Cyclone
which is a low speed turn where cars typically get bunched together.

In the first couple morning sessions we will require drivers to stay in
their appropriate group. After the first couple sessions, all drivers will
be allowed to drive in either or both groups as long as they observe the
rules of the group on track. Drivers with less than 5 trackdays experience
will be required to run in B group only unless they get approved by our
staff.

We will have some experienced drivers available to help beginners with their
technique. This instruction is mostly informal as we leave it up to the
student to seek help/advice. We will provide one-on-one instruction for
all first time track drivers in the morning B sessions. This instruction is
MANDATORY for all persons new to track driving, and optional for others.

There will be an ambulance on-site, and gas is available at the track with a
credit card.

Cost for this event is $175 for GGLC members and $200 for non-members.
Additional drivers sharing a car are $50 each. If you want to join the
club, you will have to pay full price for this event and will receive the
discount on future events. Please include a separate check along with your
membership application. If you would like a lunch provided, please include
$7/meal and let me know what type of sandwich you'd like.

If you plan to attend this event or want to hear about future events, you
MUST send a message to GGLCtrackeventsinfo-subscribe@yahoogroups.com This
is an information list with messages posted by the GGLC staff only.

If you want to gossip about GGLC track events, send a message to
gglctrackeventstalk-subscribe@yahoogroups.com This group is totally
unmoderated so you can swear at the guy who cut you off in turn 3 or
anything else that makes you smile.

If you have questions, direct them to trackdays@f...

You can retrieve the entry form from www.gglotus.org

That is all, John

Default A hot day at Thunderhill is too hot for a turbocharged S4...IMHO

Talk about heat soak. I got dizzy one time changing my tires after a day there...it was so frickin hot! I have avoided any July/August Thunderhill days since.

Default When you're addicted to the crack, two months is a long time.

Unfortunately the places with reasonable weather like Sears & Laguna don't have track days during the summer. All that's left are the hellhole furnaces of T-hill, Willow Springs and Buttonwillow. So you gotta gamble on a day and hope that it will be relatively cool, with T-hill being the most likely.

Luckily the gamble paid off yesterday and it was in the low 90's. There was a breeze out there and around 2pm the sky clouded over. Only about 20 cars out there so it was pretty much open track all day.

Default yeah, it's just as bad down south...

Buttonwillow, Willow Springs and CA speedway are hell's furnace just as bad as T-hill...too bad the pace of development in CA has pushed any new tracks so far out into the sticks that they are in places nobody in their right mind would live!

It's a pitty...that NASA event at CA speedway was ALMOST unbearable...there was a gap in the middle of the day where I was wondering WTF I was doing there. My wife was a real trooper hanging-in there when at least I got to go have fun!

I turned down that Kart thing Michael was doing because I didn't want to be at Willow Springs at the end of july in a suit and helmet driving a piggy 4-stroke kart.
