Default YESS! The 92 GTI is HOME!

Picked up a 92 GTI 8V for $2400. Only 120k miles, has some various.. "personality" items.. such as a finicky door, and some ugly interior/exterior items.. but most importantly, it runs like a CHAMP. Drove it home 240 miles, and it runs great.

I'll be looking at putting in a roll bar as the first "mod" to it. Hopefully that will be fairly unobtrusive, and allow me to continue to bill it as a "daily driver" to my girlfriend. Hee hee hee. Little does she know

Anyway, I'll be getting some good pads and some decent street/track tires to boot. I may decide to get R tires and 6 point harnesses early on, as I want to feel comfortable when I'm on the track.

Other than that, the days of the VW track menace have begun! Check back regularly to hear about interesting places I've wadded it! Bwahaha.

Man it's going to be so great to be able to do track days without writing off a set of rotors and pads every time I'd go (fear the S4 in that regard).

Alex.

Default Good choice with the 8V engine... you'll never worry about that timing belt totalling the car.

I loved my 16v, but it got to me that at any time the belt could snap and render the engine a lump.

You'll be able to build a torquey engine with that 8v and get along about as fast as th3 16v.

Good luck!

Default I had two GTIs...

...a 1985 8V and then traded it for a 1987 16V. I liked that the '87 was faster and had a leather steering wheel (better looking wheels, too), otherwise the '85 was hands-down a better car just by virtue of its lighter weight, which rendered better braking and better handling.

I have owned a dozen or more cars and motocycles, but until the UrS4, the GTI 8V was my favorite.

I miss you Thumper.<p>Jimmy

Default If anyone knows of a Scirocco II 16V...

I'm looking for a track car myself. I'm still wondering if a front driver will make me happy on the track. I currently own a 95 GLX (VR6) that has been paid for for 4 years, and have coilovers and all suspension mods on it.

Unfortunately, it is a very heavy car, thus my Scirocco II choice. It is 1900 lbs with the interior trim. Throw in that wonderful 16V engine (the 1.8 litre) and I think it'll be a fun track car.

I'll be throwing out all interior trim/carpeting and putting a roll cage in with Recaros and harnesses.

If anyone knows of such a beast (stock of course), with a bulletproof engine and a straight chassis and body, please let me know.

Thanks.<p><a href="http://www.jyoteen.com"><img src="http://www.jyoteen.com/audiworldsig/rips4.gif" border="0"></a>

Default Yes! (more)

I originally wasn't going to do anything else this year. I'm saving up to finish sorting out the car, etc.. Anyway, TMS is too good to pass up. I mean a brand new, world-class track? I'm there!

In fact, I think it will be important for Rick to have a good turnout the first time out, so whatever I can do to help promote the event, just let me know. I have already written him and thanked him for his efforts.

Later,<p>Jimmy
