Default I've found very little difference in plugs

unless they are the wrong plugs. I've tried plats, coppers and iridiums...all the same performance. The lifetime is very directly related to price so its all a matter of how often you want to change them.

Default 2nd - unless you significantly change what's going on inside the cylinder, plugs won't make...

...much of a difference. An example of a significant change would be going from 150HP to 300HP in a 1.8T. Even then, the difference will be because of the plug spec and not the plug brand or model.
