Up until Saturday my only experience with watching professional racing had been a dozen NASCAR Sprint Cup races I have been to over the last seven years. So when a fellow AW'er from CT who I correspond with weekly mentioned to me that he was going to Lime Rock Saturday to the ALMS race I decided to join him. Needless to say I am glad I went.

The 2 hour and 50 minute drive to Lime Rock went by very quick. Part way into my trip while I was on the MA Pike a Dolphin Grey B6 S4 Avant came up from behind and we ended up caravaning together until a 10 miles before Lime Rock where he turned off and went to another distination. I was sure that he was going to LRP but I guess it was just coincidence that he went 2/3rds of the same route that I was at the exact same time.

Lime Rock Park is a great facility and I loved how they allow the fans on to the track prior to the event starting. Very fan friendly atmosphere.

The race was very good, except for the Audi LMP1 R10's, both of which had their fare share of incidents during the race. The #1 Audi started behind some of the LMP2 cars but quickly established itself and within 15 minutes had taken the lead. The #2 Audi was not to lucky to start off at it spun in turn 1 and once in the Esses within the first 10 minutes. The #1 Audi was cruising with a nice lead until at about 1 hour into the race one of the Austin Martin's decided it didn't want to brake at one of the turns and it plowed into the rear of the R10, damaging the right rear considerably. The car was in the paddock for about 30 minutes before it returned to the course. The #2 Audi was doing well at the mid point of the race but a pit road violation resulted in a lap penalty.

Just prior to the start of the race I spotted another AWNE'er, alms_TT_ny. And how appropriate that he was at the Audi Motorsport Tent when I spotted him.

new improvements from the newly laid track they just put down, and some spectator areas... was pretty mad i didnt get to go this year, was looking forward to it all year too.

The Audi team had some problems getting the R10 started. The nose came on and off a couple times while I was watching. I think they came out with a paper cup full of brake fluid to top things off, not sure if they used it.

The best part was when they couldn't get the nose to seat properly and the crew was jumping on the
front of the car! That didn't work very well so the nose came back off and they looked to see where it was hanging up. You definitely don't want the nose flying off in the middle of a race.

father/son combo playing catch in the infield which I am sure I could do with Aaron as long at we were in a spot where I could keep one I on the race and one I on the income ball. =)))
