Default Need some advice about a cracked sewer pipe with lots of roots in it...

Our washing machine drain pipe backed up a few weeks ago and submerged the basement in an inch of doodoo water. We had our plumber come and snake the line, pulling out roots and tampons.

Today they sent a camera down the pipe and it turns out it's got a bunch of roots growing into it less than 25 feet from the house. So the town ain't gonna cover it.

The plumbing company (Silva) claims they've got some sort of proprietary pipe liner that can be installed in the pipe without having to dig it up (which would cost us a TON of money b/c it's got a patio above it = thousands of pounds of sand and brick). It's not an actual pipe that gets installed, but some sort of resin that then hardens and is guaranteed for life. I don't know the details, as the lady was home this morning while I had to head to work. They've quoted us $4400 for a 20 foot section, which sounds a bit high to me for 20 feet of resin or whatever the hell it is.

Does this price sound correct? Do we have any other options (besides the liner) other than digging up the broken pipe and replacing it?

Default Or try posting on the AW Human Waste Forum.

Seriously - what are the roots from? My mother had a similar issue and solved it by removing a schrub.

Default From a tree.

WTF else would they be from? Our pipes are decades old. We think we're getting scammed by this place.

The jerkoff didn't even record the "invasion" this morning, so I'm getting them to come back and make another tape so we've got something to show another plumber for a second opinion. Just gonna have the roots cut out for now, and then keep up with it annually until we sell the house in a few years.

Default Ditto...we had roots in our pipes...

but we had a plumbing person clean out the pipe using some kind of auger, adn there was no issue afterwards, since the offending tree had died anyway and was already removed.

Default "WTF else would they be from?"

If you have bushes, trees or a combination of both, it can be difficult to figure out which one has found the pipe. If you can find the source and can live without it, remove it.

Default Sorry...

I'm just sick of talking to jerkoffs that are trying to part me with lots of money, telling us different stories about what to do, etc. I'm not in a good mood today...obviously.
