Default As I understand it, the real problem is with the sub-standard pavement....

...which is laid atop a sub-standard bed, and is then left almost completely unmaintained.

if we had a markable "google maps", it would be great for that purpose.

Default google maps is markable... at least, I've seen some web apps that work that way.

like, there was one to track registered sex offenders. Google has an API for placing markers on a map.

Of course, if you mapped every pothole the map would be entirely covered in markers

Default I think it is a good idea...maps along with a description and possible mile markers would help

Although reporting the pothole to a municipality and collecting on any damages seems like a bit of a stretch.

Default it might be a pain to collect still, but if you showed it was reported and ignored, you have a shot.

I think the main point would be to alert drivers and make sure the bad potholes get reported.

The google maps API is really easy to use actually, their documentation just isn't the best.

Default odd - come that way home every day - haven't seen a *single* flat-tire car or even a pothole!?

I wonder what lane NoahD's wife was traveling in - not the fast lane, apparently!! :-P

Default She's usually in the fast lane (and has ~30 track days under her belt!) but didn't see the pothole

She acknowledged that it could easily have been some debris (brick, concrete, muffler...) rather than a pothole. All she saw were the whole line of cars and figured it was worth a warning.

Default Still ...

for my disbelief, I'll probably nail it tomorrow.

And with my ground clearance, a nice big pothole won't just flatten a tire but destroy my engine.

*crosses fingers*
