Agreed, unless the cover is tinted. I had an officer let me know to get a clear one.

state name.

Default they aren't really illegal. but you can't cover your plate number,,,

state name or stickers. you can cover the "live free or die" motto.

Default yup

they have been enforcing this harder since Oct 1 08.

From Mass RMV

Regulations require that all letters, numbers, stickers, and symbols must be clearly visible on the number plate. A number plate frame that obstructs any part of the plate is illegal, and you could be fined for having an obstructed plate.

Default I've been pulled over by a statie for having a plate surround, while travelling 5 mph in traffic.

It was just an excuse for him to pull me over. He said that the surround is not allowed to cover "The Spirit of America." I proceded to tell him that I hadn't had a problem getting an inspection sticker for the past 4 years... to which he responded sometimes they miss that. I got snappy with him and said "well isn't that their job?" At which point he returned to his cruzer and waste another 15 minutes of my time writing up a warning.

It normally wouldn't have bothered me, but it was downpouring out and I hate being rained on, especially for a bull**** reason to be pulled.

Default insurance surcharge for such a ticket???

I guess my Audi of Westwood plate frame will raise my rates if I get cited .....

So you can't cover "Spirit of America" but you can cover "Live free or die" in NH ???

Default they were a while ago i believe, if they cover the "spirit of america"

part of the plate at the bottom, that is, for MA at least. i just picked up a thin black metal surround frame from autozone just to border the plate
