TORQUE CONVERTER OR TRANNY PROBLEM
So my S4 is now in limp mode and a mechanic told me that it is common for the 2001 S4's automatics to have problematic torque converters and that is what he thinks it is. Basically my car starts out in 2nd gear and slips into third. So at a stop I need to slowly hit the gas to get the engine going so it moves. Looks like it is slipping into 2nd and 3rd gear right away. I don't know much about cars but want to know if anyone has experienced this or can recommend someone to tell me what it might be. Thanks

I think that is what it is supposed to do in "limp mode" I think it stays in 2nd or 3rd only
Something before all this happened caused limp mode. If I recall correctly, it may not even have anything to do with the transmission. I'm guessing you Xposted or reposted to teh B5 S4 forum, as they might have more insight.
