Torque converter upgrades?

Torque converter upgrades?
Shop has indicated my torque converter is shot, and that it needs to be replaced, they said its a common occurance, but this is the first i have heard of it. Also they indicated that there is a seal upgrade? does anyone know about this?

Just had it done for $2K....
The new TC have the upgraded seal in them which is the weak link in the system. Eight (or so) allroads have had TC fail in the past couple of months. Get it fixed ASAP or you'll loose your <R> gear, then you'll need a new tranny too.

I am looking to change the whole tranny i can get a used one with 84K for $500
but can i do the upgrade on the torque converter? sepretly...if so is it fairly in expensive? just for that
