Who has experience with a GT2871 setup on a B5? I'd like some feedback
I currently have a GT28r which runs fantastic, but of course there's always more...
If anyone here has stories about their install or have been in cars equipped with this gear, I'd like to talk. Email me directly if that is easier, and I'm also happy to provide phone info to anyone willing to chat. I very much appreciate the time anyone takes to share information about this to help avoid easy mistakes on my end.

Not running APR -- I have assembled parts
Everything is up to snuff and completely 100% solid as it is now, so I'm assuming I can just add the larger turbo and hang on. What I am really looking for is first-hand experience with a buildup and/or first-hand driving feedback compared to what I have now and what to expect. I'm happy to blow tons of money but I want to know what I get, you know? And also to learn from mistakes that have already been made in other cars.

I don't know of anyone in the area who has that turbo
I have a GT28RS, 550cc injectors, APR software, 3" MAF housing, FMIC.
I think any larger than a GT28RS and you'll want to go with a better flowing fuel pump. You'll definitely want to go with a 3" MAF housing to properly meter air. I know some tuners use 440cc injectors, but I don't see how they can support the flow from a 2871R. What are you doing for software? I know if you plan to use European performance labs for custom tuning, they will want you to get the Siemens Deka 630cc injectors and an upgraded pump. If you want to check my car out for comparison you are more than welcome. I was slightly faster than a bone stock STi. I need to race her again now that she is tuned. I'm contemplating going with a set of cams at my timing belt change in a couple thousand miles.

Ahhh...see now this is good info. I just ran an STi the other day....
and was *just* a tad slower. Even up to about 110 (from 50mph) and then he started to walk me out to 145 or so. Repeated tests gave me the same result. I have 3" MAF, big intake tube with stock airbox, 440cc injectors, Greedspeed tuned ECU, 200-cell Tectonics cat, stock IC.
I would like to check out your car. I'm in Waltham and will happily come to your location at your conveneince for schedule. You essentially have the "next step up" from my rig and I'm interested in the differences. Maybe a few door-to-door runs would be in order.

"blow tons of money" = EPL tune =)
when you said 3" maf, did you mean OD or ID? I can see you easily maxing out a VR6 maf with a 2871r. Like Ray said, I don't know how some of these guys get away with using 440s with a 2871r, and would lean toward the Siemens Deka 630cc injectors.
I'm a little biased because I have those injectors sitting in a box right now waiting to replace my Greentops ;-)
I would give Tony@EPL a call or email him and see what he can do for you.
Ray, madan was running a 2871r before going to the 3071r right?

yes Madan had a 2871R, has a 3071R now...idea on the progress of his motor
but I know he was getting GT28RS type numbers out of his 3071R setup with like 12-15 lbs of boost. Actually, I think he was a bit higher in power than Jon's best 28RS number on Tony's dyno.

I would say I put between a half to a full car on the STi per gear
but we didn't get up to the same speeds that you did so I'm not sure when that large motor would have made the difference. I was very surprised that she didn't get a slight jump on me before I pulled.
It sounds like hardware wise you'll be all set once you get the fueling up to the task. I think software is going to be your only realy hurdle.
