Default I did it back in 1990

Actually I went to Rockford. It took me 18 or so hours to get to Chicago (at just over 1000 miles) and then another 1.5 hours to Rockford. I did it over 2 days stopping in Youngstown Ohio.

Default I flew to Chicago to pick up my S4.

Drive back wasn't too bad. Lost the transit tags during the middle of the night somewhere on the Mass pike. Soon as I hit NH, and it was daylight, a local trooper hit me...Went through Erie, Pa, woulda been nice to have the Ipod hardwired at the time. Good luck.
Lane.

Default Did it in 1988 as part of a 10,000 mile cross country trip..

I loved Chicago, took about a day to get there. A stunning and spotless city. You'll be amazed by the different architecture. On the trip we saw all sorts of cool car stuff...Rahal Racing (met Bobby) Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Corvette factory in Bowling Green, Kentucky (museum was being built), Die Hard 500 at Talladega, and Penske Racing in Redding, PA. The rest of the country was great also! This is a must do trip for everybody....you'll be amazed at the nature and diversity of the country

Default Did the reverse

All I remember is that it is faster to take a route that brings you through Canada--at least it was then before the Dept of Homeland Security.

Default Re: Who's driven from Boston to Chicago????

Sears Tower.
Wrigley-VILLE
batting cages with pitcher of beer.
The VU (Deja Vu a few block North of Wrigleyville)

Wacker drive (Blues Brothers)
Bars in the neighborhood of RUSH and Division Streets......... Look at a map. They do things by intersection streets. Its NOT Russian Division. You'll get lost...........TOURIST!

BTW stop in South BEnd IN and check out touchdown Jesus at Notre Dame........
Learn why GAry IN is referred to as "Scarey" IN...
I-80 PENn sucks @ 55 MPH
I-90 could be worse....

Can't see Canada being faster...............

Bars in the Flats on Cleveland are worth the detour........

Time to burn?
Try "the NEW 86" rt17: the southern tier of NY state from Binghamton going West.........

If you go 88 from Albany prepare to be smoked by COPS with LIDAR..............

Default It takes 1.5 days. PA is forever and why not just fly SW Manchester to Midway cheap?

I saw Southwest Airlines advertising cheapo fares MHT or Providence to Midway for low dough. If you must drive take Route 80. I've made the drive a few times with Mama-san and the then kidlets in my wife's Chrysler T & C. It's not too bad if you can relax on long distance cruise. If you get uptight, it's a very long day and a half each way.

Default Drove 8 times back and forth during college...

18 hours from Boston to Rockford (with a few stops and a night in hotel), so getting into Chicago should take about 16-17 hours, or less if you make no stops. My brother made it to Rockford in 16 hrs once, non-stop driving, so probably 14.5 to Chicago.

I-90 all the way.
