New to Forum, 2015 A4 MMI reliability
Hello. I was unable to find a thread for a 2015 A4, Premium Plus, S Line. I will post my question here, but please let me know if there is a better thread I should use.
The MMI went out in my 2015 A4. The car has 48,000 miles. Purchased in 2020, then wasn't driving it a lot. I'll start driving it more now. Audi service says it's about $5000 to replace the MMI. I'm wondering if it is worth investing $5000 in an 8-year-old car. The mileage is low, but I don't know what to expect with other mechanical issues for a Audi 2015 of this age. I'd hate to put $5000 into a a repair that doesn't impact performace or safety only to find I need to start replacing other parts to keep it on the road. Is the 2015 reliable enough to justify this expense?
The trade-in value is about $13,000, but that assumes the MMI works. I would like to keep the car for a few more years. I paid cash when I bought it used, and I am not looking to replace it now because of interest rates, and I really like the car--with the exception of the MMI issue. Is it better to forego the MMI replacement, or is it worth it if I plan to keep the car for a few more years (at least 5 if it keeps running). Nothing else is wrong with the car; I get the recommended service done regularly and on time.

"went out", what does that mean? The system won't turn on, the system stays on but isn't working (specifically how)?
You could have a device on the MOST ring dead, like the radio or the amp, not uncommon. Or you could have a dead hard drive (just swap it with one from another unit, so you don't have to deal with component protection). Could be dead itself.
Post in the actual B8 A5 forum and pursue analyzing the issue. Even if it was the J794, you can get a whole used one for less than a K, but you'd have to do the component protection reset for an hour labor at the dealership. Their "$5k" price was "sucka!".

Thank you for the response. The system will not turn on at all. I cannot access radio, navigation, and of the controls. I followed the manual for reset and tried replacing the spark plug. I don't know enough about cars or electronics to do more than that. I will post in the B8 A5 forum. Appreciate the advice!
